Eight grade education or higher
Must have a valid Texas driver’s license
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Be able to communicate using communication technology (telephone, two-way radio, etc.)
Good People Skill
Experience:
One or more years in grounds experience while working for a reputable company and or school district
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate and acceptable

Technical Skills, Responsibilities and Duties
|
In PSJA ISD, we hire individuals who demonstrate excellence in these technical areas as they lead others
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Perform duties associated with maintenance of grounds, athletic fields, and parking lots, and landscaping.
- Under the supervision of the Foreman Grounds Department, performing individually or as an assistant the Yardman will engage in the following tasks:
- Cutting lawns using push mower, riding lawn mower, or tractor with cutter.
- Trimming and edging around walks, flower beds, and walls, using clippers and edging tools.
- Pruning shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth, using shears, hand tools, or power tools.
- Raking leaves and grass clippings and disposing properly.
- Cleaning sidewalks of grass clippings after mowing, using brooms or power blowers.
- Watering lawns, and shrubs, using water hose or by activating fixed or portable sprinkler systems.
- Repairing fences, gates, and walks, using carpentry and masonry tools.
- Cleaning out drainage ditches and culverts, using shovel and rake and or tractor attachments.
- Studies wok orders and estimates work hours and materials required to complete jobs.
- Maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Promotes safety at all times.
- Inspects electric power lines near trees to be trimmed and secures clearance to work on lines if necessary.
- Plans and executes small scale landscaping operations.
- Inspects flowers, shrubs, and trees for evidence of insects, fungi, and other pests.
- Adjust such equipment as lawnmowers, sprinklers, and edge shears.
- Raise and level pop-up sprinkler heads and valves.
- Level or fill any ruts or holes that may develop in school grounds especially in playing areas.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Equipment Used:
Heavy equipment, including backhoe, trencher, and grader blade; tractor and mower; riding and power mower; gas-powered weed trimmer; blower; edger; sprayer; striping machine; garden and hand tools; aerator; and water pumps. Light truck or van and goose-neck trailers.
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Maintain emotional control. Continual sitting, reaching, and repetitive hand and arm motions. Work outside and inside, moderate exposure to extreme temperature (hot) and vehicle fumes.
