Qualifications

Primary Purpose:           

To help eliminate/minimize speech impediments that interfere with the student’s ability

to derive full benefit from the district’s educational program.

 

Education/Certification:                       

Master’s degree

Licensed to practice Speech and Language Pathology in the State of Texas

ASHA Certified with C's Bilingual

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:                     

Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred

 

Experience:                                           

A minimum of two years’ experience as an SLP working with childen

Technical Skills, Responsibilities and Duties

In PSJA ISD, we hire individuals who demonstrate excellence in these technical areas as they lead others

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • To identify children whose speech or language impairments interfere with their learning.
  • To diagnose and appraise specific speech or language impairments.
  • To compile speech assessment reports as per SBOE rules
  • To assist in the development of the IEP by providing appropriate goals and objectives for speech therapy services.
  • To refer for medical or other professional attention necessary for the rehabilitation of speech or language impairments.
  • To participate in Admission, Review and Dismissal meetings (SRDs) for initial speech referrals and/or identified speech impaired students at designated campuses.
  • To provide speech and language services for the habilitation or prevention of communication impariments
  • To provide counseling and guidance to parents, students and teachers regarding speech and language impairments.
  • To participate as a member of transdisciplinary team in providing speech services (assessment, planning, IEP implementation, etc.).
  • To document student’s progress through ongoing evaluation and to provide progress reports to parents, teachers and administrative staff as required.
  • To provide information via parent sessions/conferences regarding communication disorders.
  • To supervise licensed assistants and licensed interns as permitted by federal and state laws, rules and regulations that govern the practices of school speech-language pathology.
  • To generate, utilize and maintain relevant speech therapy data necessary for the attainment of the special education department’s mission and overall improvement efforts.
  • To comply with all laws, rules and policies related to the implementation of the speech therapy programs.
  • To supervise all speech personnel in the provision of Medicaid reimbursable services
  • To develop and implement a SHARS supervision plan for Medicaid reimbursement
  • To perform other duties as requested by the special education director and/or building principal
